Alliance for Global
Sustainability
This Alliance brings together 4 leading universities who
have pooled much of their research resource in the field of environment
and sustainability. The Alliance seeks scientific and technological
solutions to many pressing world problems. The partner universities are
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Swiss Federal
Technical University (ETH), the University of Tokyo and Chalmers
University of Technology, Sweden.
Brakeley was asked to help
the 3 year old Alliance in 1999 to expand its combined fundraising
efforts. We helped prepare a business plan and the case for support
and, once these were agreed, developed a brochure aimed at the business
community. The Alliance has an International Advisory Board and the
recommended strategy was that two thirds of this Board’s members should
be leading executives from major companies whose firms would contribute
$200,000 a year core support for five years. A number of firms have so
far agreed to provide this level of support and the AGS is over
half-way towards its target number. Research has also been carried out
internationally on foundations that might support the work of the
Alliance in preparation for intensified fundraising from this source.
“Brakeley devised a creative
plan for our fundraising and helped us in many other ways to increase
the effectiveness of the Alliance. Our fundraising success has much to
do with their input.”
Professor David Marks, MIT
and Chair of the University Coordinators of the AGS.
