Brakeley has recently expanded its Asia-Pacific Division with the appointment of Julian Marland as Managing Director for Asia and was a major sponsor of this Conference which was designed for professionals in alumni relations, fundraising, marketing and communications and for leadership and senior volunteers from educational institutions to learn from an international corps of top experts in advancement.


 

9 December 2008:

Crisis or Opportunity? Fundraising in a Recession

Organised jointly with EAPG - London, UK.

 

This was a half day seminar that sought to dispel the doom and gloom and encourage hope and confidence by seeking practical solutions to the challenges posed by the current economic downturn. Speakers included Brakeley's Vanessa Bowcock and John Kelly as well as Alan Clayton from The Good Agency and philanthropist Alec Reed.

- Vanessa Bowcock together with Julian Smyth from ASK Associates and Richard Nicholls from Tenovus (the cancer charity) gave a presentation on Major Gift fundraising.

 


 

25-29 August 2008:

CASE Europe Annual Conference 

Brighton, UK.

 

- Marcel Crochet, Rector Emeritus of the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, and Geert Sanders, formerly Executive Director of the Ubbo Ebbius Foundation at the State University of Groningen in the Netherlands gave a presentation entitled "A Tale of Two Campaigns" in which they described their experiences of their respective campaigns and reflected on what went well and what went not so well.  John Kelly, President of Brakeley, who advised both universities, then compared the two campaigns and offered his own views of the factors that contributed to success and the things that might have been done differently and better.
